Summer entertainment in the city

The Fête de la Musique – 16 June: The Fête de la Musique music festival has been held in Luxembourg City since 2000. It gives amateur and professional musicians the opportunity to perform at small free concerts in public spaces. Each year, the event draws in a vast audience of all ages to stop and listen to a wide range of "live" music (classical, jazz, rock, world music, hip-hop etc.) while walking through the streets of the capital.

City Sounds – 22 and 23 June: Music lovers will be able to dance and sing along to today's hits at "City Sounds", a series of free outdoor concerts that will bring together DJs and internationally renowned music groups, as well as local talent as the opening acts. Head over to the Place du Glacis on 22 and 23 June!

Kinnekswiss loves – 30 June to 2 July: The "Kinnekswiss loves" festival transforms the iconic Kinnekswiss area in the municipal park into a large outdoor concert space. On an imposing stage nestled in the green of the city's central park, the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra and international music stars such as Elīna Garanča (2018) and Bryn Terfel (2019) are among those to have performed at "Kinnekswiss loves".

Blues'n'Jazz Rallye – 15 July: Every year, this famous urban jazz and blues festival is one of the spectacular outdoor events in the capital's summer calendar! During this internationally recognised festival, thousands of quality eclectic music fans flock to the picturesque districts of Pfaffenthal, Clausen and Grund to soak up the friendly atmosphere together.

Over the course of an incredible evening, the "Blues'n'Jazz Rallye" brings together many renowned musicians for concerts held in clubs and in the public space tucked below the ramparts of the historic fortress listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The festival's atmosphere and scenery can be found nowhere else in Europe.

Theaterplage – 6 July to 4 September: Proven to be a big hit since its launch in 2019, the "Theaterplage" project that transforms Place du Théâtre into an entertainment space will once again take place from 6 July to 4 September 2023 inclusive.

A large 350-m² sandbox with sun loungers and sunshades in the "multiplicity" colours, a boules pitch, various plants and colourful decorations including flags and fairy lights will delight both young and old. As a finishing touch, catering chalets will also be available.

City Open Air Cinema – 21 to 29 July: Following the success of previous years, the City Open Air Cinema, brought to you by the Luxembourg City Cinémathèque programme, will once again stand proud in the heart of the city centre. This moonlit cinema is "larger than life", featuring a giant screen, more than 500 seats and a welcoming atmosphere for star-filled nights of excitement and suspense.

The general public can enjoy a diverse programme packed full of entertainment, ranging from classic and more contemporary films, to cult and must-see films that perfectly capture the magic of the 7th art in the open air. A wonderful selection of films with more stars than the sky itself.

D'Stad liest – 16 August to 3 September: An open-air library in the courtyard next to the cathedral (Rue Notre-Dame) welcomes book lovers, residents and visitors to the capital to take a seat under the towering tree at the centre of the courtyard and read a book, magazine or newspaper in this relaxed setting. There will be a selection of books for both young and old. A number of book readings and workshops will also be held throughout the day or in the evenings.

Kanner in the City – 28 and 29 July: Every year as part of the "Aktioun Bambèsch"children's activity programme, the City of Luxembourg's Service Foyers scolaires – Département CAPEL (Childcare Department – Creative Learning Centre) organises its traditional "Kanner in the City" games festival. Held in the last weekend of July, the major event is an unmissable part of the Luxembourg City Tourist Office's "Summer an der Stad"/"Summer in the City" programme.

During the event, the city centre is transformed into a real children's playground with an array of games and workshops that both children and adults will love.

Children aged 4 to 12 years old and their parents can really let their hair down and take part in the activities offered by the "Aktioun Bambësch" coordinators and "SpielMobile" professional performers from all over Europe.

Schueberfouer – 23 August to 11 September: The Schueberfouer is the largest funfair in Luxembourg and the Greater Region. From late August to early September, the City of Luxembourg invites visitors to head over to the funfair at the Champ des Glacis, a 4-hectare area packed full of festivities and magic.

The Schueberfouer is also the place to be for foodies – savour your favourite foods and sample innovative new dishes. Visitors flock to the funfair to taste our famous potato pancakes: the delicious Luxembourgish speciality, Gromperkichelcher.

As the organiser of this event, the City of Luxembourg is proud to offer visitors to Schueberfouer an enticing mix of tradition, gastronomy and thrilling attractions every year – there's nothing quite like it anywhere else in Europe.
