Un matin, Joseph K., assistant de direction dans une gigantesque administration, est réveillé par un homme qui lui annonce son arrestation. Pour quel crime ? Qui l’accuse ? Nul le sait, pas même le principal intéressé. Débute alors une longue errance dans les couloirs d’une justice aussi absurde qu’oppressante, dont il semble impossible de trouver l’issue.
