The City of Luxembourg and the UCVL are getting into the Christmas spirit with two festive competitions

Drawing competition – "De Kleeschen an der Stad"

The first sign that the holiday season is here is the arrival of capital's Christmas decorations, and there is now no doubt that the little ones are already getting excited for Saint Nicholas Day. To mark the occasion, the City of Luxembourg and the UCVL have launched a drawing competition in elementary schools and childcare centres across the city. Until 27 November 2021, children aged 3–11 can submit their interpretation of "De Kleeschen an der Stad" (Saint Nicholas Day in the city by bringing it to Cityshopping Info Point (2, place d'Armes, L-1136, from Monday to Saturday, 10:00–17:00) or by emailing it to info@cityshopping.lu.

20 drawings (5 drawings per cycle) will then be selected by a panel of judges and put on display in the shopfront windows of retailers partnered with the project from 4 to 24 December 2021. The competition will finish off with an awards ceremony in December to congratulate the winners.

The city's retailers will also be able to let their imaginations run wild. They're invited to adorn their windows or shopfront (or both!) with the most spectacular Christmas decorations to help create that magical, festive atmosphere that's unique to the holiday season. Retailers wishing to participate in the competition will be able to register with the UCVL (by email to info@cityshopping.lu) until 24 November 2021. A panel will judge the displays according to the following criteria:

  • Adherence to "The magic of Christmas" theme
  • Originality of the decorations
  • Overall creativity of the display
  • Inclusion of shop products in the decor
  • Overall visual appeal of the display
  • Bonus points awarded for: Lights, entertainment, outdoor decorations (shopfronts, entrance, pavement decoration)

The winners will be awarded €4,000 (1st prize), €2,000 (2nd prize) and €1,000 (3rd prize) respectively – another great reason to put on your Christmas hat and create a festive display that will bring a flurry of magic to the capital. The three winners will then be given their prizes at an awards ceremony in January.

These actions are part of the City and the UCVL's efforts to further diversify retail offerings by getting retailers involved in creating a dynamic and attractive community life.
