Commerce Design

18 award-winning businesses

Based on an original concept born in the city of Montreal, the Commerce Design Luxembourg competition seeks to promote quality in the interior and exterior design of Luxembourg City’s shops. The idea is to target retailers as a matter of priority, because, as their shops are ubiquitous in the city, they have a major impact on the attractiveness of the city and its economic vitality. The competition has been running for 20 years, and has developed through the international cities network: Montreal, Trois-Rivières and Winnipeg (Canada), New York – Times Square (United States), Eindhoven (Netherlands), Brussels (Belgium), Paris, Saint-Étienne, Strasbourg, Lyon, Marseille, Lille and Nantes (France).

Launched in 2009 by the UCVL, the competition aims to reward shop owners from a variety of sectors that have turned their premises into a magnificent interior space. It shines the spotlight on shop owners who take a cross-cutting approach to creating a unique environment by surrounding themselves with qualified and talented professionals. The purpose is to offer customers a novel experience. Fully aware of the importance of shop design in the positioning of the shop itself, and also in the attractiveness of the street or district in which it is located, the UCVL is keen to encourage best practices in this area. In the age of e-commerce, urban shops must be constantly innovating and seeking to set themselves apart from online shops by creating bona fide worlds, and providing customers with a unique and memorable shopping experience.
